Forsaking Purpose for Presence

“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? You of little faith! Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:25, 27, 30, 33

Sweet friend who feels small and insignificant, God sees you. He sees the loneliness you feel, knowing your calling but feeling abandoned. He sees the heartache of wanting to follow in His footsteps but not knowing if it’s worth it. He sees the sleeplessness that comes alongside wrestling with what you are ABLE to do, what you have TIME to do and what you think He is calling you to do. Sometimes, it feels just too much to bear.

But what if we decided this morning to lay it all down - yes, again - and instead live moment to moment? What if those of us who struggle to fill fulfilled, who feel constantly in the wait, who are searching for God’s purpose, began to fill that emptiness with His presence instead of His purpose? What if we stopped comparing our call that came years ago to the call placed on our friend that seemed to come yesterday and has already been carried out? Could God then actually, maybe, somehow create peace in the wait?

If we actually made the choice to seek Him instead of His call, could He perhaps give us joy even in the silence?

Gosh, ladies, I think He can.

I understand the doubting, the hurting, the struggling, the desperation because I, too, am that girl. I understand the desire to seek God’s plan for your life because that’s the first thought in my head in the morning when I wake up. Lord, how shall I move forward in my calling today?

BUT as important that question is to have in my heart, the FIRST thing I should do is seek HIM, not His call. The deepest longing of my heart should simply be to BE more like Jesus, not just to ACT more like Jesus.

And I have this sneaky suspicion that when we seek God first - when we actually seek HIM first - that everything else will fall into place for the day. No, there might not be a red sea that parts, or a neon sign flashing “walk this way”, but there will be peace, joy, more faith, more hope and most of all, more love.

Success is now not determined by numbers, sales calls and closed deals, but instead it is defined by God’s very presence in our lives.

WHAT IS GOD TEACHING YOU TODAY? IS HIS PRESENCE FILLING THE GAPS IN YOUR HEART? Together, may we seek out God's gracious willingness to be all we need for today.

Let’s chase more of THAT together, today, y’all.
